$2 million bail for man charged with killing unborn child in NW Side crash

Bail was set at $2 million Saturday for a man charged with causing a Northwest Side crash that seriously injured a pregnant woman and killed her unborn child.

Ramon Marin, of the 3000 block of North Natoma, faces one count each of reckless homicide of an unborn child and aggravated reckless driving, according to Chicago Police.

The crash happened 9:30 p.m. Wednesday between the vehicle Marin was driving and the 21-year-old woman’s parked car in the 6000 block of West Fullerton, police said.

The woman, 21, was sitting in her parked Mazda Protege when it was hit by a speeding, westbound Honda Acccord, which had swerved into oncoming traffic, police said.

The collision made the Mazda jump the curb and hit a tree, police said.

The woman and Marin, 23, were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The woman remained in serious condition as of Friday night, and the man’s condition was stabilized, police said.

The unborn child was pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Marin, who also faces numerous traffic citations, was ordered held on a $2 million bond at a court hearing Saturday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is due back in court Monday.
