WASHINGTON–Barack Obama’s campaign raised a stunning $150 million in September, besting its previous best month, $66 million in August. Campaign manager David Plouffe sent out the news in an e-mail early Sunday morning that included an appeal for more cash and noted the massive crowds Obama attracted on Saturday, some 100,000 in St. Louis and 75,000 in Kansas City, all in the critical battleground state of Missouri.

Obama for America Campaign Manager David Plouffe sent an email to our supporters this morning to announce our September fundraising numbers. In the month of September, we raised over $150 million and added 632,000 new donors for a total 3.1 million donors to date. The average donation for the month was less than $100. The average contribution for the campaign is $86.

Subject: BREAKING: Latest numbers

Howard —

A record 100,000 people rallied with Barack in St. Louis yesterday, and another 75,000 in Kansas City last night. Back in Chicago, we were tallying up our latest fundraising numbers.

Supporters like you have completely transformed how political campaigns raise money, so I wanted you to be the first to know how we did in September.

I recorded a short video to share the latest numbers:

When Barack entered this race, he put his faith in the power of ordinary supporters like you coming together and building a movement for change from the bottom up.

That’s exactly how we got this far — and you should feel proud of all we have accomplished together.

But with just 16 days left in this election, we can’t slow down now. Please take a minute to watch the video and find out where we stand:
