Wild Friday: Bittern pumping at Kankakee Sands

SHARE Wild Friday: Bittern pumping at Kankakee Sands

Jed Hertz posted this short neat YouTube video of an American bittern “pumping.”

The Kankakee man took it at the equally neat Kankakee Sands, a project by The Nature Conservancy just on the Indiana side of the border.

I have been fortunate to have visited Kankakee Sands several times. It’s about an hour south of Chicago, the majority of it just off Route 41.

I haven’t figured out how to upload audio, but click here for some pure sound of the American bittern pumping from allaboutbirds.org.
