Considering the weekend weather, the first update on archery hunting for deer in Illinois is about what expected

Here is the word from Paul Shelton, forest wildlife program manager:

ARCHERY DEER Through Monday, October 7, 2013, Illinois archery deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 4,739 deer, compared to 6,993 for the same period in 2012. Significant rainfall on Saturday (October 5), primarily in the southern and eastern portions of the state put a damper on weekend harvest,. Harvest consisted of 71% does and 29% males (3381; 1358). Top five counties were Pike (206), Fulton (132), Jefferson (130), Peoria (111), and JoDaviess (108).
