Man charged with stealing, discarding UPS package containing women’s shoes

(RIVERSIDE) A man was charged Tuesday after police say he stole a UPS package from a home in west suburban Riverside then threw it away in a public park after seeing it contained women’s shoes.

Tyson D. Hampton, 18 of the 1100 block of Randolph Street in Oak Park, was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft, according to a statement from Riverside police.

Police responded to the 200 block of Scottswood Road about 2 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call of a suspicious person walking in and out of driveways and front porches, police said. The witness identified Hampton as the person who was walking in private yards.

Officers searching the area then found a UPS package opened and spread throughout the middle of a nearby public park, police said.

Hampton took and opened a package while walking away from a front porch, according to witness interviews. He appeared “disgusted” after opening and damaging the package and threw it away in the park, police said.

The package was worth less than $300, police said.
