(DOWNERS GROVE) Police are investigating two armed robberies that happened over the weekend in west suburban Downers Grove.
The first robbery happened about 2 a.m. Saturday at the Sybaris hotel at 600 Ogden Ave., according to Downers Grove police Lt. Michael Willison.
The victim said a man armed with a small handgun and wearing a white handkerchief over his face tried to force his way into a hotel room, but left after a “brief struggle,” police said.
The suspect was described a 5-foot-8 male with dark skin wearing blue jeans and a dark coat, police said.
The next night, a woman was approached by two armed males with handguns about 11:20 p.m. in the 4100 block of Sterling Road, police said.
During a struggle, the victim was struck in the head by one of the robbers while the other took her cell phone. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have increased patrols in the area of the robberies.
Willison said the department is not ruling out a connection to a series of armed robberies in nearby Woodridge, but there are differences in the cases.
