Round Lake man accused of soliciting 9-year-old girl on Facebook

(ROUND LAKE) A northwest suburban man is facing charges of soliciting a 9-year-old girl for sexual activities via Facebook.

Devan A. Bald, 18, of the 2000 block of West Autumn Drive in Round Lake is charged with four felony counts of indecent solicitation of a child, according to a statement from the Lake County Sheriff’s office.

On June 4, Bald allegedly began communicating with a 9-year-old girl via Facebook, and the messages became sexual in nature, according to the sheriff’s office.

The girl’s father discovered the communication and contacted the sheriff’s office. A Cybercrimes Unit detective continued communicating with Bald.

On June 6, Bald made arrangements to meet who he thought was the 9-year-old girl, but was instead met by sheriff’s detective. During an interview, he told detectives his intention was to meet the girl to engage in sexual activities, according to the statement.

Bond was set at $400,000 for Bald, according to the statement. He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 11.
