An 8-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman were wounded in an Austin neighborhood shooting Sunday night on the West Side.

About 7:50 p.m., they were crossing the street in the 1600 block of North Major when the girl was shot in the right arm and the woman in the left hand, according to Chicago Police.

Someone drove them to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.

Police said two males were arguing on the street at the time when gunfire erupted. The girl and woman were not the intended targets.

No one was in custody early Monday as Area North detectives investigate.
