A man was fatally shot Friday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

Pares Preston Harrington, 25, was standing on the sidewalk about 2:30 p.m. in the 800 block of North Springfield Avenue when a light-colored sedan drove up and someone started shooting at him, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Harrington, who lived in South Chicago, was shot in the back and taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he died, authorities said.

Results from an autopsy conducted Saturday show he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
