A 36-year-old man was critically wounded in a Brighton Park neighborhood shooting Saturday evening on the Southwest Side.

The attack happened at 7:37 p.m. in the 2500 block of West Pope John Paul II Drive, police News Affairs Officer Nicole Trainor said.

He was shot in the lower back and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Trainor said.
