A man died Friday after he crashed and he was shot during an attack in the West Town neighborhood.

Neftala Reyes, 19, was driving a Chevrolet Coupe about 4:05 a.m. when a Black Hyundai Santa Fe followed him east in the 2300 block of West Grand Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the Hyundai repeatedly struck Reyes’ vehicle from behind, causing him to lose control and crash into a parked Mercedes, police said. The driver of the Hyundai then pulled up next to him and someone inside opened fire.

Reyes was struck in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 6:26 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the Logan Square neighborhood.

An autopsy Saturday found that he died of a gunshot wound to the torso and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Police said the Hyundai had two males and a female inside during the shooting.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
