Seeking further depth at the edges of their offensive line, the Bears signed Bradley Sowell, the Seahawks’ Week 1 starting left tackle last year, to a one-year deal Tuesday.

Sowell, who started nine games last year, will likely compete with new signee Tom Compton for the Bears’ swing tackle position behind Bobby Massie and Charles Leno, Jr.

The 6-7, 309-pound Ole Miss alum was signed by the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent five years ago. He played for the Colts in 2012 and the Cardinals the next three years, starting 12 times at left tackle in 2013. Sowell turns 28 in June.

The Bears did not draft a tackle last week, but selected guard Jordan Morgan with their fifth-round pick. Leno is entering the final year of his contract.
