Lou Piniella joins Reds’ front office

Former Cubs manager Lou Piniella is taking on a new role with one of his former clubs – the Cincinnati Reds.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon, the Reds have hired Piniella as a senior advisor to baseball operations. The team later confirmed the report.

Piniella, who managed the Reds during their wire-to-wire championship season in 1990, spent four seasons as Cubs manager from 2007-2010, compiling a 316-293 record and guiding Chicago to three consecutive winning seasons.

He ranks 14th all-time with 1,835 career wins. Piniella, 72, also briefly served as a consultant for the Giants in 2011.
