Five people were seriously injured in a crash during the Tuesday morning commute on the Kennedy Expressway on the North Side.

The three-vehicle crash happened at 7:39 a.m. in the outbound lanes of I-90 near Armitage Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

Four adults were taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said. One child was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to state police.

All outbound lanes were closed for about an hour after the crash, but have since reopened.
