Man fatally struck by Amtrak train in Hinsdale

A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday afternoon in west suburban Hinsdale.

About 2:45 p.m., eastbound Southwest Chief Train #4 hit a man who was trespassing along Metra BNSF tracks near Hinsdale Avenue and Stough Street, according to Hinsdale police and Amtrak.

Michael Guth, 54, of Darien was dead at the scene, according to police and the DuPage County coroner’s office. His preliminary cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries. His final cause and manner of death are pending toxicology and pathology results.

No one was hurt on the train, which had been scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 3:15 p.m., an Amtrak spokesman said.

The rail crossing was closed for about three hours as authorities investigated. Metra BNSF trains were delayed throughout the evening.
