Bill Murray, the Wilmette-bred, Second City trained actor and comedic icon has a habit of popping up in the most unexpected/peculiar places. At an engagement party, for instance. Or a bachelor bash.

Now he’s done it again, arriving to eat soft serve Tuesday after an enterprising dude in L.A. advertised a “Bill Murray Ice Cream Social” at his shop near a movie set where Murray was filming.

“My name is Joe, and I’m the guy standing next to Bill,” said dude wrote to the website Gawker. “I own an ice cream business in Los Angeles and I heard through the grapevine that Bill Murray was shooting a movie in my neighborhood last night. I decided to throw a ‘Bill Murray Ice Cream Social’ near set with the hope that he’d show up. How often do you get to meet your idol? I invited the entire neighborhood and the cast and crew of the film for free ice cream. Long story short, the guest of honor made it to the party and the rest is history. Like my dad always says ‘You’ll never dance with the pretty girl unless you ask.’”
