THE SKINNY

Glenbard South (6-6-1, 1-2-0 Metro Suburban) kept the pressure on Elmwood Park (2-7-2, 0-4-0) all night by controlling the ball and creating long shots. Two long goals in the first half proved to be the difference before the game was halted and ultimately called with 4:59 left in the second half due to persistent lightning.

TURNING POINT

In the first half, junior defender Jonathan Gutierrez fired a long shot from the 35-yard line that was high and curving to the right, eluding the Tigers goalie to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead with 19:40 left.

THE STAR

Gutierrez was a constant force for the Raiders, taking six shots on goal and stretching the Tigers’ defense thin all night with his quick, fluid shots and passes.

BY THE NUMBERS

Senior midfielder Ryan Hoffman had the other Raider goal from 25 yards out with 6:16 left in the first half. The Raiders outshot the Tigers 13-2 and had eight corner kicks while the Tigers managed only two.

QUOTABLE

“We’ve been stressing long shots and long passes all season. We’ve worked really hard the last 2 ½ to 3 weeks and a lot of what we’ve been doing is starting to come together.” – Gutierrez
