INDIANAPOLIS — Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase will be a head coach one day soon, his former boss said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Of course, Broncos GM John Elway could have made that happen after John Fox departed. He interviewed Gase, his former offensive coordinator, for the Broncos’ head coaching job before giving it to Gary Kubiak, Elway’s former backup.

Gase eventually followed Fox to Chicago.

“Adam did a tremendous job for us,” Elway said. “He’s a young guy that really works hard and did a lot of things in blending what we did, as well as what (quarterback) Peyton (Manning) was used to doing.

“In working with Peyton, they had a great relationship. Adam really did a great, great job with us. I anticipate him being a head coach very soon here.”
