A man used a sharp object to threaten a gas station attendant during a robbery Tuesday night near far north suburban Zion.
A 911 call brought Lake County sheriff’s deputies to the TA Travel Center at 16650 Russell Rd. in unincorporated Lake County about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a statement from the sheriff’s office said.
An unknown offender entered the station, “jumped over the counter behind the attendant and placed a sharp object to the back of her neck,” police said.
He ordered her to open the register, removed an undisclosed amount of cash and then ran away towards the nearby restaurant, police said.
A police K9 unit was able to track the suspect to the restaurant parking lot, where the trail ended, indicating he drove away, police said.
The suspect is described a white male in his 20s, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 with average build, and what the attendant described as “distinct pale green eyes.” He was clean shaven with no accent, and was wearing a red baseball cap, gray sweatshirt and dark colored pants.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office at (847) 377-4250, or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
