A truck struck the side of a moving freight train early Saturday in northwest suburban Burlington Township.

About 2 a.m., deputies responded to a call of a truck that struck the side of a freight train at the rail crossing at Plank Road east of Waughon Road, according to a statement from Kane County sheriff’s office.

An initial investigation indicated that a 2011 International box truck was traveling east on Plank Road when it struck the empty train car, the sheriff’s office said. The impact caused about four empty rail cars to derail from the tracks. The truck and train were both empty.

The driver of the truck was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb with minor injuries, the sheriff’s office said. He was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. There were no injuries on the train.

The crash is still under investigation.
