A fire at a west suburban home left two women displaced and caused an estimated $95,000 in damages Monday night.
Firefighters responded at 9:03 p.m. to the blaze in the 700 block of Liberty Avenue in Aurora, according to a statement from the Aurora Fire Department. They found a single-story home with smoke coming from the roof.
A woman, who is in her 30’s, was in the home with her daughter, who is in her 20’s. The older woman heard a popping noise from the bathroom and saw that the exhaust fan had caught fire, fire officials said.
The mother called her fiancé, who lives across the street, for help. He attempted to put out the fire, but it had already spread to the attic, fire officials said.
Firefighters put out the blaze at 10:16 p.m., but the home was deemed uninhabitable, the fire department said. No injuries were reported.
Damages to the home were estimated at $75,000, and damages to contents an additional $20,000, the statement said.
Fire officials determined the cause of the fire was the bathroom exhaust fan. The home had working smoke detectors.
