Before the Pirates game on Monday, the Cubs made a roster move to bring another bat onto the roster.

Cubs designated pitcher Clayton Richards, 2-0 with a 4.29 ERA and nine strikeouts during two starts, for assignment while recalling Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa.

The 26-year-old outfielder has started nine games this season, hitting .211 with one home run and eight RBI.
