Former University of Kansas forward and Chicago native Cliff Alexander talked with 120 Sports’ Michael Kim about why he had to sit out the final eight games of the 2015 college basketball season.
Alexander admitted that impermissible benefits forced him to sit out, and blamed his mom for being tricked into accepting money.
My mom got tricked into something she didn’t know what she was doing, Alexander said, and we needed money at the time.
The Curie High School star declared for the NBA Draft in April, but Alexander said if it wasn’t for his eligibility situation, he would have stayed in college for another season.
I was thinking about staying. I was thinking about staying. Then when the incident went down, I felt like I was going to be ineligible for my sophomore season, so I made the choice to leave.
