A man was shot dead, and another wounded, Monday evening in the West Side Englewood neighborhood.
The two 21-year-olds were on a sidewalk in the 1000 block of North Leamington at 6:43 p.m. when shots were fired, Chicago police said.
Damontay L. Torrey, who lived in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, was shot in the head and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 9:25 p.m., , police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
The other man was shot twice in his leg, and took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, according to police. He was in good condition.
Additional details of the shooting were not released.
Area North detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
Police initially said the person shot dead was a juvenile.
