A 17-year-old boy was killed in a shooting Thursday in Lawndale on the West Side.

About 6:50 p.m., Makei A. Smith was in a backyard in the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue when shots rang out, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Smith was hit in the hip and chest, authorities said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He lived in Lawndale.

No arrests have been reported. Area Central detectives are investigating.
