Illinois bowhunters stay well ahead of the harvest pace of last year. And signs come in the weekly harvest update of the peak of the rut nearing or at hand.

Here is the update from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources:

Here’s an update on the Illinois Archery Deer Season preliminary harvest from the IDNR Division of Wildlife Resources: ARCHERY DEER SEASON Through Sunday , November 3, 2019, Illinois archery deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 27,635 deer, compared to 25,162 for the same period in 2018. Harvest to date has consisted of 56% does and 44% males (15587:12048). The proportion of males in the harvest is rising with increased rutting activity; during the past seven days males comprised 58% of the harvest. The top five counties for archery deer harvest through November 3, 2019 were Pike (796), Fulton (756), Jefferson (705), Adams (601), and JoDaviess (575).
