Jared in coverage
One of the most surreal moments of training camp happened Monday when, while playing pass coverage, new outside linebacker Jared Allen chased Matt Forte up the sideline.
“Jared locked him up,” outside linebackers coach Clint Hurtt said. “I wish they’d thrown the ball out there so I coulda saw if Jared would have made the play. …
“We’ve actually being waiting to get a wheel route in practice, because I wanted to see if guys would fall asleep on it. We got it covered. So it was good.”
• Alshon Jeffery made three highlight-reel catches Monday: a leaping touchdown over the middle, a 60-yard deep ball from Jay Cutler and a catch while slipping to the ground.
“On a hot, humid day like this was today, I thought he did a heck of a job of competing each period,” receivers coach Mike Groh said. “When he was in there it was full go. It was as hard as he could go, as much as he could give us offensively.”
• Marquess Wilson, too, made a “great catch” in the two-minute drill, Groh said.
“I think he’s had a productive camp,” Groh said. “Really kinda picked up where he was last summer.”
• Cornerback Tracy Porter left practice with a hamstring injury but “should be fine,” coach John Fox said, while Michael Ola returned from a left knee strain suffered last week.
• Kicker Robbie Gould and long snapper Thomas Gafford were much more in rhythm Monday than Saturday, with Gould drilling all but one try during team drills.
