Three observations from the Bears’ too-close-for-comfort victory Sunday against the 2-9 Giants:

Run struggles

The Bears averaged 2.5 yards on 26 carries. Rookie David Montgomery had 22 yards on 13 carries and Tarik Cohen 25 yards on six carries.

On the most important running play of the game — a third-and-one with 3:54 left — Montgomery lost a yard.

‘‘This just happened to be one of those games where you can feel we were moving the ball more through the air,’’ coach Matt Nagy said. ‘‘And when that’s the case, you kind of want to stick to that. It has nothing to do with anything other than that.

“At the end of the game, the four-minute [mark] there when it’s third-and-one, those there we want to get.’’

Homecoming love

Giants safety Julian Love, whose friends Joseph Ramos and Antonio Lemon were killed in a car accident last weekend and later found in Lake Michigan, intercepted Mitch Trubisky on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Love, a Nazareth Academy and Notre Dame alum, made one tackle.

Akiem still on track?

Defensive lineman Akiem Hicks can return from a dislocated left elbow in Week 15 against the Packers, although it’s unclear whether the Bears will take him off injured reserve if they’re out of the playoff race.

On the Bears’ pregame show on WBBM-AM (780), however, general manager Ryan Pace said the team was ‘‘really optimistic of where that’s heading.’’

The Latest
The Bears put the figure at $4.7 billion. But a state official says the tally to taxpayers goes even higher when you include the cost of refinancing existing debt.

In 1930, a 15-year-old Harry Caray was living in St. Louis when the city hosted an aircraft exhibition honoring aviator Charles Lindbergh. “The ‘first ever’ cow to fly in an airplane was introduced at the exhibition,” said Grant DePorter, Harry Caray restaurants manager. “She became the most famous cow in the world at the time and is still listed among the most famous bovines along with Mrs. O’Leary’s cow and ‘Elsie the cow.’”

“What’s there to duck?” he responded when asked about the pressure he’ll be under in Chicago.
