A woman was critically wounded Thursday in a Lawndale drive-by shooting on the Southwest Side.

The 27-year-old was on a sidewalk about 3:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Sawyer Avenue when a dark-colored van pulled up and someone opened the side door, Chicago police said.

Someone inside opened fire and struck the woman in the upper body, police said. She was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Area Central detectives are investigating the shooting.
