A 23-year-old man was killed in a shooting Sunday in west suburban Maywood.

Tavon Watkins was walking to a friend’s house about 1:15 p.m. in the 200 block of South 16th Street when someone shot him, Maywood police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Officers arrived to multiple calls of shots fired and found Watkins lying on his back, police said.

He was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead within the hour, authorities said. Watkins lived about two blocks from where he was shot.

An autopsy released Monday found Watkins died of multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

No arrests have been made, police said Monday evening. Anyone with tips is urged to call the Maywood detectives at 708-450-4471.
