(WHEATON) An elderly man was fatally struck by two vehicles Saturday evening in west suburban Wheaton.

James Simpson, 71, was crossing Roosevelt Road near Fapp Circle at 5:10 p.m. when he was struck first an eastbound vehicle, then a car heading west, according to a statement from Wheaton police.

Simpson, who lived near where he was struck in the 2100 block of West Roosevelt in Wheaton, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges or citations have been filed as of Monday morning.
