Pedestrian killed in University Village hit-and-run; man arrested after running on expressway

One person was pronounced dead, while another was taken to Stroger Hospital, police said.

A man is dead and another hurt after a car struck them and crashed into a tree Thursday morning in University Village, police said.

Someone in the car ran from the crash scene and across an expressway, but was later arrested on public transportation, Chicago police said.

The crash happened about 10:25 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Morgan Street, police said.

The driver was northbound on Morgan and blew a stop sign, striking the two men before hitting a tree, police said. A 26-year-old man died at Stroger Hospital.

He was identified as Tushar Sharma by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy found he died of injuries in the crash and ruled his death an accident.

Another man, 27, went to the same hospital in good condition with a shoulder injury, police said.

A 32-year-old man who ran from the crashed car was arrested, police said. No charges have been filed.
