A 22-year-old man was killed and three of his family members were injured in a crash Wednesday night in north suburban Waukegan.

A vehicle struck a tree as it was heading northbound on Martin Luther King Avenue near Grand Avenue about 8:15 p.m., according to Waukegan police.

The driver, 22-year-old Emmanuel Reyes, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He lived in the 3200 block of Emmaus Avenue in Zion. Police believe Reyes suffered a medical emergency, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

The other three family members — a 46-year-old woman, an 18-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl — all suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, a statement from police said.

The police Traffic Division is investigating.
