Police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies that occurred in the West Side Austin neighborhood in the past month.

A group of two to four men has approached victims in the late evening or early morning hours, showed a weapon and demanded property or forcibly taken items, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The robberies occurred:

  • In the 1200 block of North Parkside about 3:30 p.m. April 23;
  • In the 1200 block of North Austin about 5:30 a.m. April 26;
  • In the 1200 block of North Austin about 1:15 a.m. May 8.

The suspects were described as four men between 18 and 20 years old, police said. One was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and two had dreadlocks.

The employee, a 45-year-old man, exchanged gunfire Friday night with two people who entered the business in the 2900 block of West North Avenue and announced a robbery.
