A man was shot to death Friday afternoon in the West Ridge neighborhood on the North Side.

About 1:40 p.m., 22-year-old Vallan K. Francis was standing outside in the 2000 block of West Arthur when a male rode by on a bicycle and opened fire, authorities said.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and leg, police said.

Francis, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A police source said he was a documented gang member.
