A Northwest Indiana man has been charged with attempting to steal a lawnmower and weed wacker last week in Gary.

Dennis A. Dugger, 50, of Gary, has been charged with burglary in connection with the Sept. 15 incident, according to a statement from Gary police.

A resident in the 2400 block of Fairbanks Street called police after she found out that someone was inside her shed and then saw a male pushing her lawnmower and carrying her weed wacker out of her backyard, police said.

Officers responded and found Dugger being detained by residents, police said.

As of Sept. 16, Dugger remained in custody in Gary.
