An elderly woman died of smoke inhalation in a house fire early Wednesday in west suburban Bellwood.

Annie L. Cooley, 87, was pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m. at her home in the 3300 block of Wilcox Street in Bellwood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found Cooley died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke and soot inhalation in a house fire, the medical examiner’s office said. Her death was ruled an accident.

The Bellwood Fire Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the fire.
