A southwest suburban woman died after her car crashed into a swamp near Palos Hills Saturday morning.
Just before 5 a.m., a passing motorist spotted a gray Honda in the water near the shoreline of the Saganashkee Slough on 107th Street between 104th and Archer avenues in unincorporated Palos Township, Cook County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.
The Saganashkee has an average depth of 5-feet, ranging between about a foot at its shallowest and 6.5-feet at its deepest, according to the Forest Preserves of Cook County.
North Palos Fire Department crews extracted 30-year-old Carie Grimes from the vehicle and she was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 5:53 a.m., according to sheriff’s police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Grimes lived in the 8900 block of South Main Street in Hometown, authorities said.
Alcohol may have factored into the single-car crash, police said.
