The 1985 Chicago Bears have a reason to shuffle again. Defensive back Ken Taylor returned a pick 63 yards for a score and tournament MVP Walter Payton had 109 yards on 24 carries as the Bears captured the Ultimate 50 title with a 17-10 victory over the 1996 Green Bay Packers. Arguably the greatest defense ever assembled, Chicago also got an interception from Wilber Marshall and two sacks from Otis Wilson. The Bears held Green Bay to just 59 yards rushing and 10 first downs overall. Green Bay led 3-0 early in the second quarter when Taylor stepped in front of a pass slated for Andre Rison and went in untouched. Jim McMahon found Dennis McKinnon with a 25-yard scoring strike with 15 seconds left in the half, and the Bears defense preserved the lead. Chicago held Brett Favre in check as he completed just 22 of 34 passes for 214 yards and a score, and the Green Bay quarterback was picked twice and sacked three times.

It’s fitting that the ultimate championship came down to a pair of longtime rivals, this after Chicago disposed of the ’92 Cowboys in the semifinals by a score of 24-13.
