North Coast Music Festival is going down this weekend in Union Park. Although the lineup features artists from all around the world, four local Chicago bands will be bringing the funk.

Make sure you check them out because if you dig their style, you won’t have to wait another year to see them play locally.

The O’My’s

When: 1:45-2:45 Saturday

Where: 773 Stage

Comprised of seven Chi-town natives, The O’My’s take inspiration from the city and its musical past, incorporating a horns section that plays off of vocalist Maceo Haymes’ sweet falsetto.

The Main Squeeze

When: 3:45-4:45 Saturday

Where: 773 Stage

Though this five-piece funk band was born in Bloomington, Indiana, they’ve since migrated to Chicago and seek to blend soul, funk and rock ‘n’ roll in with a self-described Stevie Wonder-meets-Red Hot Chili Peppers vibe.

The Heard

When: 5:15-6:15 Saturday

Where:847 Stage

Producer and live digital instrumentalist Zach Webb leads this collective of artists from different bands, including Vancouver emcees Sean AKA Kaboom, Joe and Shay, who pump up the crowd while disparate sounds are woven together during their high-energy sets.

Future Rock

When: 4:30-5:30 Sunday

Where: 312 Stage

This hometown trio — Mickey Kellerman on keyboards, Darren Heitz on drums and Felix Moreno on bass — combines the groove of ’70s rock with electronic beats, loops and samples.
