Two men stole several handbags from the Chanel store on the Magnificent Mile on Wednesday morning, the latest in a series of purse thefts from swanky downtown stores.

About 10:30 a.m., two men entered the store in the 900 block of North Michigan Avenue, grabbed several purses from a display near the door, and ran off, according to Chicago Police.

The suspects were described as two black men between 18 and 24, one with a fade haircut and the other with dreadlocks, police said. They took off in a white van.

Several similar handbag thefts have been reported in the Gold Coast neighborhood this summer.

At 10:08 a.m. July 13, several designer handbags were stolen from the Barney’s store in the first block of East Oak Street, police said. The suspects, two males and a female, fled in a waiting gray vehicle.

Other thefts happened June 27 and July 31 in the 0-100 block of East Grand; and June 30 and July 20 in the 100 block of East Oak.

Area Central detectives are investigating. Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8382.
