A 27-year-old Chicago man was killed in a crash that shut down inbound I-57 for several hours Monday morning in the south suburbs.

The man’s Chevy Malibu rear-ended a semi about 3:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 147th Street in Posen, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver of the Malibu, Michael A. Sample Jr. of Broadview, was pronounced dead, state police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. The 46-year-old driver of the semi was not hurt.

All northbound lanes of I-57 were closed near the scene of the crash until 8 a.m., state police said.
