A garage fire Friday in Mount Prospect caused roughly $40,000 in damage, fire officials said.

Crews responded to the home near the corner of Central Road and Hatlen Avenue about 11:15 a.m. and found heavy fire and smoke coming from a detached garage, according to the Mount Prospect fire department.

No one was inside, and firefighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes, fire officials said.

An electrical problem might have caused the fire, which appears to be an accident, officials said. The fire caused about $40,000 in damage.
