A man was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday in northwest suburban Algonquin.

David Popovich, 53, was crossing Algonquin Road at 6:12 p.m. at the intersection with Crystal Lake Road when he was hit by a vehicle heading west on Algonquin, according to Algonquin police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The crash happened near the border between Algonquin and Crystal Lake.

Popovich, who lived in Lake in the Hills about a block from where he was hit, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he died the next day at 1:50 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Sunday found he died from multiple blunt force injuries and his death was ruled an accident.

The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old Algonquin woman, was not hurt and “showed no signs of impairment,” police said. No charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
