Steven Laken and his son Kyle with a big tom turkey from Will County.

Steven Laken bagged a 25-pound tom in Will County, but there was more joy.

“Best part about it was my 7-year-old son Kyle was with me when I got it,” Laken emailed. “In fact, Kyle saw it first about 20 minutes before we were going to leave so I credit him for helping me get this big guy in.”

TOTW, the celebration of turkey hunting stories and photos around Chicago outdoors, runs Wednesdays as warranted on the Sun-Times’ outdoors page. Submit nominations on Facebook (Dale Bowman), on Twitter and Instagram (@BowmanOutside) or email (BowmanOutside@gmail.com).
