Man killed in Englewood drive-by: police

The 37-year-old was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the back, police said. He later died.

A 37-year-old man was killed Saturday when he was shot in a drive-by in Englewood on the South Side.

About 4 p.m., Gerald L. Davis was walking in the 6400 block of South Laflin Street, when someone in a dark colored SUV fired shots in his direction, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was struck in the back and rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, authorities said. Davis lived in Bronzeville.

An autopsy said Davis died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
