Officers responding to a ShotSpotter call found 31-year-old David Santoyo unresponsive in the 4400 block of South Kedzie Avenue with a gunshot wound to his head.
The off-duty officer was entering his vehicle in the 3900 block of South Artesian when he was approached by two men and one pulled out a gun and fired shots.
The suspect took off in vehicles either left running or with the keys inside, police said.
A bullet traveled through the Claudio Cossio’s hand and struck him in the head, police said.
In each case, one or more people got inside and took property in the 4200 block of South Mozart Street, according to a community alert from Chicago police.
